Scholarships of the Research Training Group 1172 „Biologicals“

3-year PhD studentships of the GK 1172
“Research, Development and Safety of Biopharmaceutical Drugs – Biologicals”

The research training group “Research, Development and Safety of Biopharmaceutical Drugs – Biologicals” is a DFG-funded research training group at the Goethe University Frankfurt, the Goethe University Hospital and the Georg Speyer Haus.
The academic goal is to train excellent graduate students for careers in molecular medicine, pharmacy, biology and medicine both in academia and industry. The GK 1172 research training group is embedded in the Graduate Centre FIRST (Frankfurt International Research School for Translational Biomedicine) of the Goethe Graduate Academy (GRADE). FIRST provides postgraduate education in all aspects of translational biomedicine with a focus on the processes involved in drug research and development.

Candidates should already possess an excellent MSc/Diplom or Staatsexamen (biology, pharmacy or related discipline) or MD degree. Applications consist of:
- a cover letter indicating personal research goals and project references,
- a full curriculum vitae containing a brief summary of previous research projects,
- copies of all relevant university certificates.

Short listed applicants will be required to attend a selection workshop in Frankfurt.

Graduate Student Position available

A PhD student position is available from October 2010 in the group of Dr. Martin Zörnig. Our laboratory is interested in apoptosis and cancer research, and the project will focus on the function of FUSE Binding Protein 1 in Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Rabenhorst et al., Hepatology 2009).
We offer the possibility to be trained in interesting working techniques (including mammalian cell culture, viral transduction and analysis of mouse models) in a stimulating and cooperative working atmosphere.
The position will be financed by a scholarship from the Graduiertenkolleg 1172 (GK1172; please visit www.grk-1172.de; payment is equivalent to BATIIa/2) and implies a training program in tumor biology and biologicals).
