  2010, the Summer School will again be held in Löwenstein (near Heilbronn) in the Naturpark Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald from August 21 - 27. It combines and integrates various activities of the existing Research Training Groups at Frankfurt University/graduate school FIRST (GRK 757 "Roles of Eicosanoids in Biology and Medicine", GRK 1172 "Biologicals" and the Dr. Hans Kröner-Graduiertenkolleg “Eicosanoid and Sphingolipid sihgnalling pathways in inflammation, cancer and vascular diseases”) and its associated institutions such as the Georg-Speyer-Haus and the Paul-Ehrlich-Institute in Langen.

August 21 - 24

GRK757, Dr. Hans Kröner-Graduiertenkolleg “Eicosanoid and Sphingolipid signalling pathways in inflammation, cancer and vascular diseases” and FIRST-Divisions I, II and V

There will be student lectures that focus on recent scientific achievements and overview lectures held by senior scientists. The session will cover:

  • arachidonic acid metabolism (cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways)
  • CYP-mediated arachidonic metabolism (EETs)
  • nitric oxide pathway
  • sphingolipid metabolism
  • proteomics and lipidomics
  • structural biology of the eicosanoid-related anzymes and receptors

Departure: August 21nd, 2010, at the Biozentrum, Campus Riedberg: time 12:00 (noon)

August 24 - 27

GRK1172, FIRST-Divisions III and IV

Phd students will present their latest achievements and discuss their projects with the supervisor committee. This will be complemented by overview lectures held by senior scientists. Topics include:

  • Biologicals
  • Cancer & Cancer therapies
  • Virology
