Rafting
September is an excellent time to go whitewater river rafting in the Styrian National Park "Gesäuse". The rafting guides from salza.at take us through a marvelous canyon, carved through the granite over one million years ago. In rafts for 6 - 8 persons we take two trips on the Enns or Salza river. A river rafting adventure on Enns or Salza river will be the highlight of FIRST Summer Acadamy social programm.
Library of Admont Abbey (Benediktinerstift Admont)
Sitting close to the border of the Gesäuse National Park, Admont Abbey, founded by Benedictines, is one of the oldest remaining monastries in Styria. A fire in 1865 destroyed almost the entire monastry, except for the library. The Baroque library hall is the largest monastic library in the world, housing ca. 70,000 of the 200,000 volumes of the monastry. Over 1,400 manuscrips and over 900 incunabulae are in the possession of Admont Abbey. There is also a Natural History Museum and an Art Muesum to visit at Anmont Abbey.
Other activities
About 5 minutes walk from the Puttererschlössl is the Putterersee (Lake Putterer) for swimming. Just next the the Schlössl, there is a field for playing football, see the video "Germany vs Sweden" at the Summer School 2007. The area around Aigen is ideal for walking and hiking. A bit further away at the Planneralm, you can do archery and more hiking. Another alternative is visiting Graz with its old town which is a UNESCO world heritage site.
